Michael has extensive domestic and international experience in strategic planning and risk management in a range of industries. He served in the Armed Forces for 13 years as a Regimental and Special Forces Officer, where in 1966 he was awarded the Military Cross for gallantry in Vietnam. He resigned his commission in 1973 and entered the investment banking industry. This resulted in living and working for 13 years in London, Vienna, Nairobi, Cape Town and New York.
On his return to Australia, he was appointed Group Marketing Director of The Hardy Wine Company a position he held for eight years. In 1991 he established his own consultancy in the agribusiness sector advising in areas of strategic planning, corporate governance, international trading and risk management. This consultancy operated for twenty-one years until his retirement. During this period, he held many non-executive directorship positions with public and private companies.
He is very active in veterans matters sitting on national committees in Canberra; President of his Regimental Association; and President of The Alliance of Defence Service Organisations. In 2015 he was awarded the Order of Australia Medal for his services to Rugby. He is also President of The South Australian Rugby Union.

Rob has a background in aviation with Ansett Airlines, the sale of mechanical tools with Snap-on Tools and most recently as a franchisee with McDonald’s Family Restaurants where he operated stores for almost 30 years.
As of 2020 he is retired, lives in Airlie Beach and maintains an interest in the stock market.
